On 23 April 2026, we were delighted to welcome eight Year 8 pupils from the Oscar-Paret School to SOMMER. As part of Girls’ Day, from 10 am to 1 pm they were given fascinating insights into our production facilities, various technical departments and the day-to-day work of our apprentices.

- They were able to get hands-on experience in the print shop and with CNC punching and milling.
- The event concluded with a joint feedback session and small gifts for the guests.
The visit began in the meeting room with a brief introduction. There, the pupils first learnt what we manufacture at SOMMER and what apprenticeship programmes we offer. Two videos provided further insights into the day-to-day lives of our apprentices, as well as important safety rules for the subsequent tour of the production facilities.
Afterwards, our trainers led the group through the production area. As they did so, the pupils passed through several departments and gained an initial impression of just how many different work stages and specialist areas go into making our products.
The class was then split into two groups. One group visited the print shop, whilst the other went to the CNC punching and milling area. Both areas were the main focus of the day, as the pupils were not only able to watch but also get hands-on experience.
In the CNC punching area, they were allowed to load a component themselves, cut it using a laser and then measure it. They were also able to fit a punching die into the tool holder and machine on their own. This gave them a first-hand experience of just how precisely and carefully work is carried out in production.
Hands-on work was also on the agenda in the print shop. Using a hand-operated screen press and a squeegee, the pupils were able to print ink onto paper and try out for themselves how the printing process works.
Before the group rotation, the pupils were also given a brief introduction to our Technical Department. This included an explanation of how a product is set up and the steps required before a product can even go into production.
To round off the morning, everyone came together once more for a joint feedback session. This gave the pupils the chance to share their impressions, ask questions and reflect on the morning’s activities.
Of course, our guests didn’t go home empty-handed: as a farewell, the pupils and their accompanying teacher received small gifts, including trail mix, pens, key rings, leaflets, information sheets and, as a special highlight, our SOMMER mouse pads.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Oscar-Paret School for their visit and are delighted that we were able to give the pupils a practical insight into technical careers, production and apprenticeships at SOMMER.
